Jets' Aaron Glenn explains questionable 4th down decision in third quarter

Details
23 November 2025

With the Jets down 10-7 in the third quarter after having just allowed a six-minute, 11-play touchdown drive to the Baltimore Ravens to open the second half, head coach Aaron Glenn made a gutsy but risky call to go for it on fourth-and-2 from New York's own 42-yard line.

It didn't work.

After the turnover on downs, the Ravens -- with excellent field position -- scored once again, this time on a seven-play drive that took just over three minutes. Ironically, the touchdown came on a two-yard run by Derrick Henry on fourth-and-goal.

The score gave Baltimore a 17-7 lead and all the good that the Jets defense had done in the first half by limiting Lamar Jackson and the Ravens to three points and just 72 yards of offense went out the window.

"At that point, I was thinking about the defense and how I thought the defense was playing really, really well," Glenn said after the game when asked about the questionable decision. "... And I thought our offense was doing a solid job, I thought Tyrod was doing a solid job.

"So I want to be aggressive, I want to be able to go on that and we didn’t make it. That’s just what it was."

Glenn's desire to be aggressive is commendable, but in that particular situation it didn't make much sense.

While it's true New York's defense played well, it had just given up a long touchdown drive and no longer has some of the playmakers it did at the start of the season. It was also midway through the third quarter with the Jets down three -- totally enough time and by a small enough margin to still win the game without the conversion.

Instead, Tyrod Taylor's pass to John Metchie III was incomplete (and totally covered) and New York's defense was behind the eight ball when it could've punted the ball somewhere inside the Ravens' 20-yard line and given the Jets defense a much better chance.

In short, the risk wasn't worth the reward and Baltimore made the Jets pay for their first-year head coach's mistake.

"It’s one of those things where it didn’t work out," Glenn said. "You look at what they did, they went for it on I think fourth-and-1 from the 20-something (yard line) or something like that and they made it. It’s just one of those things and we didn’t make ours so we gotta do a better job there."

Of course, with their record what it is at this point in the season, the Jets had nothing to lose in their bold attempt. And while it's conventionally the wrong call, Glenn deserves some credit for wanting to see how his team would respond in that situation.

"I trust our guys to go make those and that was a situation I want our guys to not blink and get ready to go and we didn’t make it."

Had Glenn made a different decision, who knows, maybe the Jets end up winning that game which is ultimately what the head coach wants the most.

Kevin Stefanski on Shedeur Sanders starting again: Not going to get into that today

Details
23 November 2025

The Browns picked up a 24-10 win with Shedeur Sanders at quarterback against the Raiders on Sunday and that made it a sure thing that head coach Kevin Stefanski would be asked if Sanders will remain the team's starter for Week 13.

Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion against the Ravens in Week 11 and was ruled out for Sunday's game, which opened the door for Sanders to start and go 11-of-20 for 209 yards, a touchdown and an interception. After the game, Stefanski was asked if Sanders did enough to get another chance to run the offense against the 49ers next Sunday.

"I'm not going to get into that," Stefanski said. "Obviously, proud of him and proud of this offense and there are a ton of things to learn from, but I'm just going to worry about today."

Stefanski added that he is "going to take my time and do what’s best for the football team" when it comes to deciding which of the two rookies will get the call next time.

Cowboys stun Eagles with 24 unanswered points in 24-21 win

Details
23 November 2025

The Cowboys' playoff hopes remained alive with a 24-21 victory over the Eagles on Sunday.

The Cowboys, who lost to the Eagles in the season opener, improved to 5-5-1, while Philadelphia dropped to 8-3.

The Eagles scored touchdowns on their first three drives and then did next to nothing the rest of the game. In their final seven possessions, not counting a kneel down to end the half, the Eagles punted five times, fumbled once and missed a 56-yard field goal. They gained only 107 yards in those seven possessions after picking up 192 on their first three.

The Eagles had 14 penalties for 96 yards, two turnovers and went 5-for-12 on third down for the game.

Their missteps and offensive inefficiency the final three quarters allowed Dallas to rally from down 21-0 to tie it.

The performance is tied for the biggest comeback in Cowboys franchise history, with this being the fourth time it's happened.

The Cowboys had a prime opportunity for their first lead with 5:09 left when Xavier Gipson, for some reason, fielded a punt at his own 2. He ran it back to the 12, where he was crushed by Markquese Bell and Alijah Clark, knocking the ball loose. Trent Sieg recovered for Dallas.

That gave the Cowboys first-and-goal at the 8. They got nothing out of it.

Javonte Williams ran for 6 and Dak Prescott for 1, setting up third-and-goal from the 1. Prescott twice threw incomplete passes, including a ball that hit CeeDee Lamb in the stomach on third down.

Alas, the Cowboys got the ball back and cashed in, driving 49 yards in eight plays to set up Brandon Aubrey's 42-yard field goal on the final play.

Dak Prescott, who became the team's career passing yards leader on Sunday, went 23-of-36 for 354 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed twice, scoring an 8-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. George Pickens caught nine passes for 146 yards and a touchdown, and CeeDee Lamb added four receptions for 75 yards.

Javonte Williams ran for 87 yards on 20 carries.

Jalen Hurts was 27-of-39 for 289 yards with a touchdown and ran for 33 yards on seven carries. Saquon Barkley had 10 carries for 22 yards and seven catches for 52 yards and a lost fumble. A.J. Brown caught eight passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.
