It wasn’t left up for very long, but Malik Nabers aired out his frustrations with the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon.
Nabers blasted his team on social media following their wild overtime loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. In a now-deleted post, Nabers called out the Giants for a rough sequence near the end of the fourth quarter — which kept the Lions in position to kick a field goal that eventually forced overtime.
“Sometimes I think they [be] making us lose on purpose!” he wrote. “Cause it’s no way, bro you throw the ball instead of runnin’ it to make ‘em burn two timeouts?? Then you [don’t] kick the field goal??? Then they have to go down and score!!! Football common sense!!! Am I missing something?”

Nabers was referring to a late drive the Giants made in the fourth quarter, in which backup quarterback Jameis Winson nearly sealed the upset win at Ford Field. Winston, who escaped a sack and somehow managed to complete a 39-yard pass earlier in the drive, got the Giants down inside the 10-yard line late in the period while they were up by a field goal.

But the drive quickly stalled out. Winston missed two passes, Tyrone Tracy was stuffed on a 2-yard run and then Devin Singletary was brought down four yards behind the line of scrimmage on third down. That run forced the Lions to take a second timeout, but left them with one.
Then, after Winston’s missed pass on fourth down, the Lions quickly marched down the field to set up a 59-yard field goal to force overtime. Jahmyr Gibbs scored on the first play of that extra period, too, when he broke open a 69-yard touchdown run that eventually sealed the 34-27 win.
Nabers is still recovering from a torn ACL in his right knee, something he went down with in Week 4. The 22-year-old is expected to be ready to go for the start of next season.
Though he’s not out there playing currently, it’s easy to understand why he’s frustrated. The Giants sit at just 2-10, and have now lost six straight. Sunday’s loss made them the first team to be officially eliminated from the playoffs, too. The team hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2022, and has been only twice since they won the Super Bowl back during the 2011 campaign. They are also being led by interim head coach Mike Kafka after the team fired Brian Daboll.
While there are plenty of reasons for it, the season has largely spiraled out of control for the Giants. He may be the only one posting about it publicly, but it’s hard to imagine Nabers is the only one upset within the Giants organization.
