NEW YORK — In an effort to continue showcasing its flag football initiatives, the NFL is moving the Pro Bowl from the Sunday before the Super Bowl to prime time Tuesday night.

The league will stage its flag football game of Pro Bowl players in the San Francisco Bay Area this coming February in conjunction with the Super Bowl that the San Francisco 49ers will host.

The game will take place at the Moscone Center, set to host the Super Bowl experience, and the NFL expects the venue will prompt more Pro Bowl players to interact with players throughout Super Bowl week.

The convention center’s capacity will be smaller than recent Pro Bowl venues, but the game will nonetheless be ticketed and aired live on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET, NFL EVP Peter O’Reilly said at league meetings.

ESPN’s TV coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. and a Pro Bowl-related show on the Sunday that previously held the game.

The purpose of this move: spotlight flag football on a global stage in the leadup to the 2028 Summer Olympics in which NFL players will have opportunities to participate.

“We’re committed to this flag football format,” O’Reilly said. “This is clearly rooted in our commitment to flag and making sure we’re honoring players in the right way.

“There’s a broader strategic play here, and that’s one of the main reasons we brought it into Super Bowl week.”

Expect this format to continue to the Super Bowl’s 2027 stage in Los Angeles, the city also preparing to host the Olympics a year later.

New coaches will oversee the Pro Bowl teams, though Peyton and Eli Manning will stay involved, O’Reilly said. The NFL will also increase emphasis on Pro Bowl selections, giving Pro Bowl decals to players in Weeks 17 and 18 of the regular season.
