Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: 4 deep stashes to consider adding heading into Week 3

Justin Boone identifies under-the-radar stashes to consider adding to your roster before they become top fantasy football waiver-wire pickups in future weeks.

While the bar might move occasionally, the general focus is to search among the group of players who are rostered in 15% of the Yahoo leagues or less.

Blake Corum, RB, Rams (15% rostered)

Sean McVay has hinted at using multiple backs on many occasions and yet, when the chips are down, he always rolls with Kyren Williams… until last week.

Williams’ 82% snaps share dropped by over 10%, with the bulk of that work going to Corum, who turned his opportunities into 44 yards and a touchdown.

That performance was enough to make McVay suggest that he’d like to see a 65-35 split moving forward.

If that occurs, Corum would move into the weekly flex range, while still maintaining high-end upside if Williams were ever to miss time. In that scenario, rookie Jarquez Hunter would likely take on the smaller change of pace role.

Honorable mention: Kyle Monangai, Bears (7% rostered), DJ Giddens, Colts (5% rostered), Woody Marks, Texans (7% rostered), Kendre Miller, Saints (4% rostered),

Jalen Coker, WR, Panthers (8% rostered)

We’re taking a longer view with this stash, since Coker remains on injured reserve for at least another few weeks.

It’s just hard to ignore how disappointing the Panthers receivers have been behind their top target Tetairoa McMillan. Hunter Renfrow is a serviceable slot man, but you don’t want to be relying on him to be a significant piece of your offense like he was in Week 2. Meanwhile, Xavier Legette has generated just eight yards on 15 targets so far.

The door is wide open for Coker when he returns from his quad strain.

Coker flashed as a part-time player during his rookie season and is a favorite of Yahoo’s Matt Harmon.

If you have an empty IR spot, don’t let Coker sit on the waiver wire. However, if you don’t have room on IR, you might want to wait another week before stashing him on your bench.

Honorable mention: Isaac TeSlaa, Lions (8% rostered), Dontayvion Wicks, Packers (2% rostered), Tory Horton, Seahawks (2% rostered), Luther Burden III (12% rostered), Malik Washington, Dolphins (2% rostered)

Isaiah Likely, TE, Ravens (13% rostered)

This is the second consecutive week that I’m highlighting Likely in this space.

We’ve seen Likely excel in past years when thrust into a starting role in the Ravens’ offense, but this season might be different. Mark Andrews has only caught one pass in each of the first two games, totaling just seven scoreless yards.

This comes after an offseason when there were rumors Andrews might not be back with the team.

With Andrews’ productivity potentially fading, Likely has a legitimate chance to overtake him in 2025.

As I wrote last week, very few tight ends have the ceiling Likely can offer, he just needs to pass Andrews on the depth chart one way or another to unlock it.

Honorable mention: Ja’Tavion Sanders, Panthers (5% rostered), Jake Tonges, 49ers (2% rostered), Elijah Arroyo, Seahawks (3% rostered)

Carson Wentz, QB, Vikings (4% rostered)

Mac Jones should be the player featured here, but I covered him last week and there’s at least a chance Brock Purdy could return for this game.

In Minnesota, we know J.J. McCarthy will be sidelined with an ankle injury for at least a week and likely longer, which puts Wentz back under center in an NFL offense.

In leagues where you’re only starting one quarterback, you don’t need to consider Wentz. Instead, you might want to stash someone with higher long-term upside like Jaxson Dart.

But in superflex or two-quarterback formats, Wentz is a viable QB2 option. Kevin O’Connell has turned other journeymen backups like Joshua Dobbs and Nick Mullens into temporary top-15 fantasy QBs during their brief starting stints with the Vikings.

Left tackle Christian Darrisaw began the week with a full practice and may finally make his season debut, which would be a huge boost to the offensive line.

Wentz will also get the benefit of facing the Bengals, who just gave up 271 passing yards and three touchdowns to Trevor Lawrence and have lost Joe Burrow for three months.

If you don’t have faith in Wentz this week, you could also consider other injury replacements like Marcus Mariota or Tyrod Taylor.

Honorable mention: Mac Jones, 49ers (7% rostered), Spencer Rattler, Saints (3% rostered), Marcus Mariota, Commanders (1% rostered), Tyrod Taylor, Jets (1% rostered), Jaxson Dart, Giants (5% rostered)
