Cowboys announce death of 24-year-old defensive end Marshawn Kneeland

The Dallas Cowboys announced the death of defensive end Marshawn Kneeland on Thursday. He was 24.

The team made the announcement in a statement, which read:

"It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning. Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family."

The NFL released a similar statement Thursday, confirming Kneeland's death and adding that it has "offered support and counseling resources" to the Cowboys.

Kneeland's cause of death has not been revealed at this time.

Kneeland, who was drafted by the team in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, was in the middle of his second season in Dallas.

He played in seven games with the team this season, recovering a blocked punt for a touchdown during Monday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
