Aaron Glenn excited to add John Metchie to Jets’ WR room: ‘He’s our type of guy’

Sitting at 1-7, the Jets are expected to be very active at this year's NFL trade deadline.

Gang Green started their sell-off a little early, sending CB Michael Carter II and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Eagles in their first deal late last week.

In exchange, New York acquired WR John Metchie III and a 2027 sixth-round pick.

This marks the second time this season that Metchie has been traded.

After a quiet first two years in the league, the speedy Alabama-product was shipped out of Houston in an deal with the Eagles in exchange for TE Harrison Bryant

Metchie wouldn’t earn himself much of a role in Philly either, though, as he played just seven percent of the offensive snaps during his seven games with the team.

But with his rookie deal set to expire this offseason, Metchie will look for his shot to come as part of Gang Green’s shorthanded receiver room down the stretch.

Aaron Glenn still isn’t sure if the former second-round pick will make his debut this week against the Browns, but he’s excited to have him aboard.

“He is our type of guy,” Glenn said. “Our brand of football that we talk about in-house really fits who he is as a player, so I’m excited to have him and looking forward to him getting out and being part of what we're trying to accomplish.”

Metchie has just 44 catches for 430 yards and a touchdown in his career.
