Moises Alou’s time with the Mets may be remembered less for his glorious September last season than for four visits to the disabled list and unfulfilled expectations

Moises Alou, the veteran left fielder, returned from the disabled list to play Tuesday but felt renewed pain in his left calf and was not in the starting lineup Wednesday night.

On a long, rain-delayed evening at Shea Stadium, the Mets squandered a four-run lead and allowed four home runs as they lost their fifth consecutive game.

The encouraging news for the Mets Tuesday was that Moises Alou was back on the roster after another trip to the disabled list. But replacing him on the D.L. was Ryan Church.

If all goes well, Moises Alou will return from his calf injury in San Diego on June 5, when he is eligible to return from the disabled list.

This has not been a good week for Willie Randolph, and it did not get much better before Thursday night’s game against the Braves.
