Rodney King
Rodney King, the man who gained national attention when his 1991 beating by Los Angeles police was caught on tape, is back in the headlines after being shot and wounded in the Inland Empire (IE) on a San Bernardino street corner late Wednesday night.
Sgt. Don Lewis says King, 42, was able to ride his bike home to nearby Rialto before calling police at 11:39 p.m. to report the shooting and head to the hospital for treatment, said Sgt. Don Lewis.
After arriving at King's Jackson Street home, police said he and others inside appeared to be drunk, and few were cooperative in providing information. King did say that the shooting took place at 5th Street and Meridian Avenue in San Bernardino, just east of the Rialto city line.
King was reportedly struck in the face and arm with a shotgun. His condition was unknown as of press time, but the wounds were not believed to be life-threatening, Lewis said.
Since gaining his fame, King has had several brushes with Inland police agencies, most recently a 2005 arrest on suspicion of domestic violence.
