SUBSTANCE FOUND IN DMX RAID NOT DRUGS: But officials did seize ‘usable quantity of marijuana.’

DMX

A chunky textured substance seized from the bedroom of DMX’s Cave Creek, Arizona home last week was not an illegal drug, according to investigators.

"We're still looking at what type of powder that is," Sheriff Joe Arpaio said, according to the Associated Press. "But we did seize a useable quantity of marijuana. He does have a drug situation there."

Sheriff's deputies also found guns, ammunition and drug paraphernalia at the residence. Arpaio said officers were working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to determine whether DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, has a legal permit to own the weapons.

The rapper’s home was raided by sheriff’s deputies after receiving complaints that dogs were being mistreated on the property. Authorities found 12 dogs that appeared malnourished, and recovered the remains of three dead dogs buried in the back yard.

No charges have been filed against the artist, and the dogs do not appear to have been used for illegal fighting, Arpaio said.

DMX says the condition of his pooches was due to negligence by the man he hired to care for them while he was in Europe on tour. The man, identified as Brad Blackwell, said he had only agreed to take care of the dogs for a couple of days until DMX could find someone else. According to the affidavit, deputies were told that DMX's manager had been sending him money for dog food through Western Union.

The rapper said through his attorney he was innocent of any wrongdoing and had not been home for "several months." However, Sheriff Arpaio said neighbors saw him at the crib within the past three weeks.
